 July 28, 2021- I met with Steven at Strozier Library for an hour. I remember that he mentioned wanting to go over personality descriptions. I wrote up a little paragraph about my dad and his great qualities using words from a chart below. One column listed positive traits and anothe listed negative traits. I had him highlight the traits in the paragraph and guess what they meant from context clues. Then we went over each word in the chart one by one givng examples, definitions, and Spanish translations. Then I had him explain people in his life using these words and why he describes them that way. This sparked a lot of conversation so we did not get to the reading activity I had planned. However, when we spoke I encouraged him to keep speakingin English and gave pronunciation and grammar corrections as needed. This was my last session with Steven and my last tutoring session overall. I am proud of his progress. I think the biggest factor that helped him with English is his confidence. As we got to know each other and get more comfortable, his confidence allowed him to try harder and not worry about mistakes.
