Kinsey TS #10
I met with Samuel via Zoom at 3 pm on July 28.
Topic/Skill: Past continuous conjugations, correct article usage
Feedback provided to tutee: Samuel and I worked on his production of the past continuous conjugation by telling stories in the past about travelling around our respective home countries. I would ask questions like "Where were you going when your car broke down?" or "Who were you travelling with during this trip?" Samuel would respond with the correct conjugation using the past continuous tense. I asked Samuel to correct his conjugation when it was incorrect. Throughout our discussion, I needed to remind Samuel about the difference in definite article usage in English compared to Spanish. We then went over some rules and exceptions to using definite articles in English using a Crown Academy English Youtube video that we watched together and discussed.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that Spanish speakers especially struggle with omitting the definite article before singular nouns. I learned also about Spanish speakers' omission of indefinite articles before job titles that we will go over in our next meeting.
