Topics discussed: Islam, Christianity, camels, weekends
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: I learned that Saudi Arabia has camel beauty pageants and a camel festival. The winner takes home around $30 million. Around a dozen camels have been disqualified from competing because they have been found to have received botox! Another thing I learned is that lamb meat is the most popular meat in Saudi Arabia, followed by camel, and then beef. I didn't know that people ate camel meat. In Saudi Arabia, the weekend starts on Thursday after work and the workweek starts on Sunday. This was changed from starting on Wednesday and going back to work on Saturday. This change was only made 8 years ago. 40 years ago, when Saudi Arabia was forming as a country, they had 6 1/2 day workweeks. The only "weekend" was half of Thursday. This is according to Hussam's dad. We talked about how Christianity and Islam differ, and about how they are mostly the same.
