Topic/Skill: Writing a personal essay
Feedback provided to tutee:
We went over her introduction to her personal essay and covered how to write the rest of the essay. I also explained a few phrases to her and how prepositions are used to express emotions.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
As a student, I always hated outlines because I preferred to write my essay from scratch and then would fill in outlines required by teachers after. I gave my tutee an outline to do, and she cited the reason why she didn't do it as why I always hated doing outlines. Because she had a plan and narrative for what she wants to do, I accepted that she didn't want to write an essay. But it was funny being on the other end!
