Topic/Skill:
Grammar; sentence formation and simple past verbs
Teacher Presentation:
The teacher handed out a paper that demonstrated how to build a sentence with a subject and a verb. It further broke down how to build one based on an action verb or a linking verb. They then filled out a linking verb worksheet (last class they did an action verb worksheet). The teacher also presented a list of common irregular verbs for the students to memorize.
Classroom Management:
Because the class was made up of students at different levels, they all were working on similar assignments that varied based on how advanced they were. The teacher went around to help individual students with understanding and pronunciation. It was a quiet and controlled environment, especially as there weren't that many students today.
Materials:
Computer, projector, Microsoft Word, printed worksheets
Student Participation:
Students participated by speaking the irregular verbs out loud to practice pronunciation. They also worked in groups to fill out the linking verb worksheet.
Feedback Provided:
The teacher provided linguistic support by helping students with verb pronunciation and explaining the worksheet in greater detail if they needed. She went around to each individual student to give them assistance based on their level of English understanding.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned:
It was helpful to see a class where all the students weren't at the same level, because not every class you get will contain students with the same English background or confidence. I also liked listening to the teacher explain pronunciation to the students as it helped show me how I should do so. I also noticed that occasionally, the teacher would explain something in Spanish for a student who needed further clarification in their first language.
