Olivia TS #8

July 7th, 2021- I met with Paola at Sweet Shop for an hour. We could not meet on Monday like we usually do so we caught up and she told me about her weekend in Orlando. The first half of the session was on modal auxillaries where I did a review on what they are, how to use them, and what each of them mean in relation to time, certainty and mood. Then I showed her a handful of examples that include them like from the song "Shoulda Woulda Coulda", a clip of the tv show "What Would You Do?", and then we played a few rounds of Would You Rather. The second half of tutoring I had her read out loud an article about hurricane Elsa. We made a chart to fill in with figurative words and phrases from the article that describe certain aspects of weather like "howling" wind or the storm "skirting" up the coast. We wrapped up by comparing the weather in Tallahassee to the weather in her hometown. I learned that figurative language is still something to grasp as she did not understand all of the words.

Trying to further my evaluation of Jeahs skill we completing a reading assignment. Where we rfead brief articles and answered questions together. This testing her comprehension, which she is pretty good at. I've noticed if she reads out loud she seems to understand stuff better.

 August 3rd Today Jeah and I met after a brief break, we worked on learning new words and what they mean. She loves to draw so I let her draw the new words she learned.
