Topic/Skill: Vocabulary Comprehension and Sentence Formation

Feedback provided to tutee: Alice was able to successfully read the story from start to finish. We also looked at a list of vocabulary words, and we defined these terms together. There were some terms that Alice found hard to define. She also did not know the meaning of the vocabulary words. I had to provide the meaning, and an example image for the words she was confused about. I asked her to choose a few words, and she would create a complete sentence including the vocabulary words. I encouraged her to use some of the new words she learned. She was able to make sentences with details, while accurately using the vocabulary word.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that Alice loves to share about the books she has read, and also likes to show some of her favorite items around her room. When doing reading lessons, I think it would help to incorporate the stories she has shown me. For example, she has shown me Scary stories to read as well as The Trumpet of the Swan. I think that she would be more engaged, and be excited about the lesson. I also noticed that it is good to match her energy. For instance, I should not have a monotone voice if she is excited when answering questions. I should have the same energy as well because it shows to her that I am excited about tutoring her.
