 On Friday, July 16 at 2:00pm, I met with my my student Hussam for an hour over zoom. During the session, we spent some time talking about his recent move back to Saudi Arabia for a job interview and what he hopes to accomplish while he is there. After that, we spent a little more time working on the IELTS speaking sections, working more on opening sentences, general structures and requirements, and what he needs to do to communicate his ideas effectively. We covered the TOEFL speaking rubric given out in class, as well as a long talk about prepositions and their common uses to help him better use them when doing controlled speaking. We capped off the session by doing one more speaking practice, trying to get him to use some common prepositional phrases that we had discussed. We will pick up with the same thing next time, working more on prepositions, speaking, and being intentional about the sentences used to explain his ideas.
