1:50 PM - 2:50 PM
Today Hang-ah and I continued our conversation about idioms. In the beginning of the lesson, we watched a video from YouTuber, Domics, about the origins and oddities of American idioms. This was helpful in that it introduced a few more idioms, explained their origin in an entertaining way, as well as gave examples of their usage using visuals. As we watched the video, I wrote down all of the idioms that were listed so that I could go back over them in depth with Hang-ah. In particular, we reviewed:
Beat around the bush
Take it with a grain of salt
Raining cats and dogs
Turn a blind eye
Eat your heart out
In a pickle
It is all downhill from here
Tickled pink
Wouldn’t be caught/seen dead
Happy as a clam
Goodie-two-shoes
Piece of cake/pie
No brainer
Bob’s your uncle
Pulling my leg
Twisting my arm
The ball is in your court
No use crying over spilt milk
Following going over the idioms, I presented Hang-ah with some fill in the blank sentences where she applied these idioms.
Finally, we ended the session by reading two articles about how people help animals in different ways. One was about a vet who sutured up a frog the size of a fingernail, while the other was about a man who made prosthetics for animals without limbs. We tackled any unfamiliar vocabulary, and did comprehension checks throughout.
