Devon TS #4
Hang-ah Kim
7/8/21
1:30 PM- 2:30 PM
Today Hang-ah and I followed the structure that we decided on, and began the session with a guided dialogue. We have been focusing on some colloquialisms, as they are a bit more difficult to pick up. Most notably, many of the questions that I get from Hang-ah revolve around low-frequency words and idioms. I plan on covering idioms in a later session after we finish up with prepositions and guided dialogues.
Due to our focus on low-frequency words, I decided that the activity that we did in Professor Kim's class would be level appropriate and beneficial for future sessions. I used the friends clip between Chandler and Rachel fighting over a stolen cheesecake. We first watched the clip without subtitles, and I had Hang-ah listen for comprehension purposes, as well as for anything she did not understand. The second time around, we turned on the subtitles and saw what she gained from the second listen.
We also started in prepositions with a work sheet that focused on travelling BY a mode of transportation, such as being IN a car vs. ON a plane.
We finished the session with a guided conversation about where we come from that is tailored to include certain preposition uses.
