Hang-ah and I have decided on a system that makes a well-balanced class every session. We first start with a conversation based portion where I create a dialogue pertaining to different situations. In the past we have role-played asking directions, getting takeout, and talking to tourists. I also included a listening section where we look at a clip of film and then review it several times for comprehension. Last class we did a clip from The Incredibles and I have a clip from Friends ready for next class. Finally, we review reading comprehension by looking at level appropriate news articles. I decided that using the news could be beneficial since it was a tactic that my Portuguese teacher used back in high school. My teacher explained that this is an academic way to approach common vernacular. Overall, this structure works really well for Hang-ah's sessions. She is very advanced and only needs fine tuning in some aspects. I have noticed that she struggles with picking the correct prepositions, such as the difference between "for", "from", or "to", as well as struggles in remembering to use articles. I will try to tie these into the conversation portion of our class next session.
