Today I met with Masoud, a beginner student as CIES.

Topic/skill: Pronunciation, modal pairs

Feedback Provided: Continuing our last lesson, we focused more on speaking and pronunciation today. We practiced 4 different types of modal pairs that Masoud struggled with. First, we practiced p versus b pairs, then /ĕ/ and /ā/, t and d, and lastly, -ink and -ing. Though Masoud had trouble with some of these and we had to do a lot of repetitions, I saw improvement when he said the words very slowly. I believe this will improve more with repetition.

Lessons about Tutoring Learned: Even with modal pairs, pronunciation practice was very difficult at times. We worked on slowing down when we said each word and focusing on the syllable that was most difficult.

Trying to further my evaluation of Jeahs skill we completing a reading assignment. Where we rfead brief articles and answered questions together. This testing her comprehension, which she is pretty good at. I've noticed if she reads out loud she seems to understand stuff better.

 August 3rd Today Jeah and I met after a brief break, we worked on learning new words and what they mean. She loves to draw so I let her draw the new words she learned.
