Today I met with Masoud, a beginner level CIES student.

Date: 7/30/2021, 4-5pm

Location: Starbucks

Feedback provided: For our last lesson, Masoud wanted to practice pronunciation. I wanted to do something fun, so I found a list of tongue twisters to try. Because it was a pronunciation lesson, we went pretty slow with them, but I found all of the similar words grouped together to be a very helpful tool. Masoud sometimes messed up long and short vowel sounds, but overall has improved so much since our first week. Certain minimal pairs Masoud could differentiate at all in the past, but now does very well.

Lesson learned: I think tongue twisters or using minimal pairs in sentences is a very good exercise for when students progress past minimal pairs. It is also a way to make the lesson fun. It was great seeing how much Masoud progressed this session.
