Topic/Skill: Writing essays and looking at organization and grammar
Feedback provided to tutee:
After the tutee sent me her essay, I made corrections to it using the error correction symbols. During our meeting, we read the essay together and talked over each of the sections to correct that I had highlighted. I had her work out what the corrections should be, and pointed her in the right direction with clues if she got stumped. We also talked about how to practice writing solely in English.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
I learned that it can be hard to explain why certain phrasing does or doesn't work in English. Grammatically it may work, but it sounds strange or incorrect. I also learned that my tutee isn't confident using English grammar terms either, so I can just explain concepts to her rather than having to look up all the proper grammar terms.
