Speaking when giving illustration presentations

Teacher Presentation:

The teacher presented the instructions and guidelines for the presentation that the students would be giving on Friday. He explained the timeline to them, as well as how to do the presentation. He made sure they knew what the words in the instructions meant (outline, draft, etc). He also explained the intention of the presentation, which was to illustrate students' opinions (ex: the three best soda flavors).

Classroom Management:

The class was very interactive but in a respectful way. They spoke up when they had a question, could answer a question, or wanted to make a point about what the teacher was saying. The teacher would listen to them, but also redirect them back to the task at hand when they started getting distracted.

Materials:

Computer, projector, Microsoft Word, video player

Student Participation:

Students participated by answering the teacher's questions, like filling the blanks for his example presentation outline. They were interactive with each other and with the teacher, having fun making up example topics. They brainstormed together and then worked individually.

Feedback Provided:

The teacher clarified words if students didn't understand them exactly right, like with root beer. A student thought it was a beer, so the teacher took the time to show them it was a soda and not alcoholic or related to beer.

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned:

This class was less advanced than the reading class I observed previously, so I noticed how the teacher slowed down his speak a little, paused more, and used simpler language. He also asked true or false questions to check students comprehension and used a lot of hand gestures. For example, when giving examples, he would give a thumbs up or thumbs down to show what he meant by "best" and "worst". The teacher also spent a lot of time on the example presentation, which I noticed the students found helpful.
