Olivia Rhoads TS #2
Today I met with my second tutee, Steven, on campus outside of Strozier Library for an hour. He is a beginner in English from Colombia. I asked him some introduction questions from the tutoring handout. From this conversation I could already start to gauge his proficiency. Then I did some vocab exercises with "rhyming vocab" which was a list of one syllable words that rhymed like "can" "fan" "man" "pan" "tan" "van" etc and a reading passage. We went through the words by describing the meaning and showing examples, then he would come up with a sentence in English using them. For the reading passage, he would read it out loud in English then explain to me in Spanish what he just read. He was very kind and eager to learn. He would ask me to repeat some words slowly so he could learn how to correctly pronounce them. Moving forward I want to do grammar exercises on verb tenses and another vocabulary activity.
