Ryan Flemming's Reading Class Group 1

Date/Time: 6/23/21 11 AM

Topic/Skill: Reading Comprehension

Teacher Presentation: Mr. Flemming started the class by going over the agenda for the day which included some reading paragraphs and choosing the main topic and then a discussion about different types of music. Students individually read a passage and then answered a poll with three options of what the main topic was. Mr. Flemming discussed after why the correct answer was correct. For the music discussion, he had a chart that listed genres of music. He asked the students what type of instruments, musicians, songs, and type of place you would this genre of be found in.

Classroom Management: Mr. Flemming directed the class by introducing what the activity was before starting it and made sure each student understood by asking "Do you want anymore information about the vocabulary I used?"

Materials: Computer, projector, speaker, zoom, google docs, and reading passages

Student Participation: The class was engaged the entire time since they were asked to respond to everything. They read silently but all answered the main topic question and the music discussion was very fun. There were a lot of laughs and gestures. It was a good way to share types of cultures too since there was a catergory for American Rock, Latin American Salsa, and Middle Eastern Classics.

Feedback Provided: Mr. Flemming spoke loudly, clearly, and slowly while enunciating. He used gestures himself and asked questions to reach an understanding with the students. He used visual aids for any vocabulary questions.

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: I learned the importance of speaking clearly for beginners of english. And constant reassurance that you want to understand what they want to say and vice versa. Visual aids are very helpful in the beginning acquistion of english.
