Dr. Angel Rios Reading Class
Date/Time: 6/23/21 11am
Topic/Skill: Main Idea
Teacher Presentation: Dr. Angel Rio started the class with the activities discussed in the previous class and the reading assigned from his last class. The class was very interactive, and I could see the bond that he and his students have. It seemed the class period was separated. Last class, they focused on reading. In this class, they worked on questions pertaining to the reading. The reading was about budgeting and Dr. Angel Rios asked the class about the tips given. He asked in-depth questions on each tip. Then more questions followed, that either had to deal with the previous question or the text.
Classroom Management: The students were very interactive. This class focused on answering questions, so they made sure they were ready if they were called upon. Students had the opportunity to answer the questions if they knew them. The questions directed where the class was going, and which topic they needed to focus on. Dr. Angel Rios was switching between the reading and the questions so that the students knew where to look for the answer.
Materials: Zoom, Question Sheet, Reading passage
Student Participation: There were a few students on zoom and more in person. Those that were on zoom were very engaged. They did not hesitate when answering questions, and I believe it is from the confidence that Dr. Angel Rios encouraged. The students felt comfortable in class to answer the question, whether it was right or not.
Feedback Provided: Dr. Angel Rio followed along with the questions he asked his student. He repeated the answer to make sure that the whole class collectively agreed. The students knew they were on the right path when Dr. Angel Rios would write their answers down. The students, however, were right with the answers they gave.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: Starting the class with the overall main idea and then diving into more specific questions offers a quick summary. Instead of going straight to the text, they can look at the main idea to answer the questions. I also noticed the importance of a bond between teacher and student. Dr. Angel Rios made his students feel at ease and comfortable which could've been responsible for their desire to participate frequently.
