Ryan Flemming's Reading Class

Date/Time: 6/21/21 11AM

Topic/ Skill:  Reading & Main Idea Deductions

Teacher Presentation:  Professor Flemmings allowed the class to choose the story they read for the day. Throughout the reading, the Professor made the story come alive. I was interested from start to end, due to how he told the story. He made sure his words were clear and precise. He used his hands and his face a lot while reading the story to make sure the students were still engaged.  After this reading, he went through questions that pertained to the story. Additionally, Flemmings would define any words that the class was confused about. The class was very interactive, there was one student on zoom and she was still asking questions on the meaning of certain words.

Classroom Management: For the first 30 minutes of class, Professor Flemmings read the selected story, and the class made sure to stay engaged. For the rest of the class, Flemmings used a multiple-choice short quiz on the story. The class had the opportunity to work together to answer the questions. The students also could ask questions on phrases that were difficult to understand.

Materials: Zoom, Computer, Reading Passage, Multiple- Choice Questions, Google

Student Participation: The students made sure to pay close attention to the story so that they were able to answer the questions. Also, Flemmings called on specific students and if they were struggling to answer the question, he would help them. In the questions, he would explain any words that were too difficult. The students all participated in answering the questions and even aided their fellow classmates

Feedback Provided: Throughout the questions, Flemmings made sure to read all the choices before the students would make their final choice. Also, after choosing the answer the students agreed to, the website used would let them know if it was the right answer or not. When answering the questions. Flemmings made sure he was showing both the story and the questions.

Lesson)s on teaching you learned: I believe that giving the class the choice of picking their story of choice can ensure participation, so they have an interest in what was being read.  When reading a story, I think it is important to annunciate your words. I think it makes the reading easier to follow. Also, defining the words through the reading allows for a better understanding. The questions following the story challenge the students to start analyzing the text.
