Today I met with Ruth, an intermediate level 2 CIES student via Zoom.

Topic/Skill: Introductions and Needs Assessment

Feedback provided to tutee: General pronunciation corrections, support for their communicative ability

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that it is hard for to communicate open-ended questions like "What topics or skills would you like to cover?" In addition, Ruth understood key words in my questions but did not always understand exactly what I was asking. She read a passage aloud to me so that I could hear her pronunciation skills. We talked about her career and life so that I could gauge her speaking skills. She has great inference and reading comprehension skills. I want to work on when to use the terms person versus people.

 July 30th When working with Jael I realized on paper her English is almost perfect she can write sentences, uses some grammar, and knows a wide array of words. Trying to further my evaluation of Jeahs skill we completing a reading assignment. Where we rfead brief articles and answered questions together. This testing her comprehension, which she is pretty good at. I've noticed if she reads out loud she seems to understand stuff better.

 August 3rd Today Jeah and I met after a brief break, we worked on learning new words and what they mean. She loves to draw so I let her draw the new words she learned.
