Topic/Skill: 

Grammar/Present Perfect Tense 


Teacher Presentation:

The instructor used the students’ answers to introduce verb tenses. She focused on the present perfect tense. The first question she asked was “When do we use present perfect tense?”, after students made a few guesses, she explained when the present perfect tense is used and then revisited the students’ answers to her initial discussion question to relate and compare it to the present perfect tense.  


Classroom Management:

After the breakout sessions, the instructor was extremely interactive with her students and engaging in their conversations within their groups. She asked what they had discussed in their groups and would display pictures of words that may have been unfamiliar to a student.


Materials:

Computer, projector 


Student Participation:

The instructor first asked a basic question “What have you done today?” and broke everyone in break out groups so they can discuss and practice their conversational English. You can tell that the students have formed a close bond talking about their families and knowing personal things about each other.  

Feedback Provided:

When the students made a grammar mistake example “I have eated breakfast”, the instructor typed the sentences on a shared document and asked the student to rephrase the sentence using the proper verb tense. After this, she explains why their new sentence is correct. This was a good way to correct the students mistakes in a way that all students can learn and feel more confident when they speak. 


Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: 

I loved the environment that the instructor created for her students, you can tell they all have a good relationship with each other and her by the way they interact with each other and during the lesson. This environment made them not afraid to make mistakes out loud and actually want to learn and correct themselves.
