Alexa Scalchunes TS #1
Today I met with Masoud, a beginner CIES student.
Date: 6/28/2021
Time: 4-5 pm
Location: Strozier Library
Topic/Skill: Needs Assessment and Diagnostic, getting to know each other, going over vocabulary and the present progressive tense.
Feedback provided: After getting to know each other a bit and doing the needs assessment, we began working on his vocabulary and using the present progressive tense. As we did this, we discussed some vocabulary words and I would correct his pronunciation or spelling if needed. When writing a few sentences together in the present progressive, there were a few times the -ing suffix was left off, so I corrected these and tried to stay encouraging.
Lessons about tutoring learned: Because Masoud is in group 1, he has not had as much exposure to English. I worked on annunciating things better for him and worked on not using any slang or conjunctions such as "gotta" or "don't". Additionally, I was able to apply strategies such as "I do, We do, You do" during our lesson when creating sentences. Overall, I had a good first lesson.
