Dr. Felicia Ciappetta Speaking Class with Group 1

Date & Time: 6/24/2021, 1:00 pm

Topic/Skill: Speaking, Families, Classroom Supplies

Teacher Presentation: Professor Ciappetta had multiple different labeled worksheets for students to read from. Throughout the class, Professor Ciappetta would project these worksheets, which usually had a picture with numbers on different objects in the picture, and asked students what each number was. She would call on each student and ask them something like "What is number 1 a picture of?". Professor Ciappetta was very helpful if students were having trouble thinking of the right term or if they pronounced it wrong. The students were all eager to find the correct pronunciation.

Classroom Management: Professor Ciappetta only had 3 students in class when I observed, so she simply rotated who she called on. Because this was group 1, she spoke very clearly for them and gave them words of encouragement when they got the term correct. Additionally, she would type in their answers for one of the activities so they could see the work they had done on the screen.

Materials: Worksheets, personal workbooks, computer for the teacher, projector

Student participation: The students all participated equally. If it was someone else's turn to answer, but other student wanted to practice their pronunciation, they would jump in and work on it together. The students were all working very hard at finding the correct terms and pronunciation.

Feedback provided: Professor Ciappetta would help a student if they had trouble finding the correct term, corrected their pronunciation in a polite way and would help them annunciate better.

Lessons on teaching I learned: Listening to the way Professor Ciappetta talked to her students was helpful. I was worried I would accidentally talk too fast to beginners or not annunciate enough, as I tend to do that, so seeing her strategy and how she discussed with her students was very helpful. She was very encouraging to students and I enjoyed the speaking lesson, as I have never seen speaking lessons before.
