Dr. Angel Rios Grammar Class with Group 4

Date & Time: 6/24/2021, 10:00 am

Topic/Skill: Phrasal Verbs

Teacher Presentation: Dr. Rios first showed the class their schedule for the lesson. Dr. Rios had the students warm up with verbal exercises that he lead involving the usage of phrasal verbs. Today was quiz day, so the majority of the class was spent taking the quiz.

Classroom Management: Dr. Rios often joked around with the students and supported them in their practice exercises. The quiz was open note and Dr. Rios made himself available when students had questions. Though it was quiz day, the students did not seem stressed and were eager to learn.

Materials: Laptops, projector

Student participation: Students all participated in the initial exercise involving phrasal verbs and many asked questions during the quiz time.

Feedback provided: There was not much room for feedback because it was quiz day, but when students had questions about the quiz Dr. Rios was quick to answer and let the whole class know if a mistake was made. For Dr. Rios, it was clear that helping all of the students learn English was his main priority and he did not want them to stress too much about the quizzes.

Lessons on teaching I learned: Through this observation I was able to learn the importance of communication with students and how to help them in the best way possible. Compared to my own language learning experience, the class was much more open verbally and the goal was to teach fluency and accuracy at once. The students did not seem overly stressed, which I enjoyed seeing.
